[edit] Template:East Cambridgeshire

I coded the below Settlements in East Cambridgeshire template over a year ago. I have just been playing with trending topics, such as this one: Category:Cities in the East of England, and it occurred to me that I could do something similar with Template:East Cambridgeshire - for example Category:East Cambridgeshire. However, I do not appear to have added a useful category to the template - perhaps [[Category:East Cambridgeshire]]? Can you point me to something that shows me what I should do here and how to (properly) do it please?

Whilst I am here, in relation to the same template (Settlements in East Cambridgeshire) is there a way it can be automated so that any mainspace article it is included in gets listed in the template? If it is possible, is it desirable to do this? --Senra (Talk) 22:51, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Of course is that possible. You can request it at WP:BOTREQ, but please gain first a consent at the related Project pages. mabdul 13:58, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Wiktionary_on_WiKiPeDia

Add Wiktionary result(s) on Wikipedia.

Wkpd could use it & it would be so convenient --like when on a friend's browser or a guest at someone's computer(s). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.92.35.234 (talkcontribs) 02:36, 20 December 2011

[edit] Simply Encouraging Talk Template

I'm interested in being able to add a thing to the top of talk pages to provide a little bit of balanced encouragement and a couple of most fundamental tips/links on making comments or edits.

The template along those lines seems to be Template:Talk_header which is great but for when pages attract frequent or perpetual debate, articles often subject to controversy, and/or recent-and-highly-visible topics. It has quite a lot of links & points in it, esp with the policies column, and when adding it there seems to be an extra undocumented line at the top warning This is not a forum for general discussion of the article's subject, which I feel could tipo the balance of it toward confusing or discouraging new people.

On the other hand there's Template:Be_bold which is also great but is specifically about jumping in to editing, as things can easily be undone, and doesn't mention talk page commenting, or editing policy.

I've maybe missed other relevant templates or message boxes, but if not then I'd like to contribute to a new one that sort of mixes the above two but simplified for articles needing encouragement. For developed articles where it's not a matter of just adding a critical improve tag, but where people don't seem to be making substantial contributions and maybe queries/suggestions aren't getting replied to much or at all (so check back later or ask elsewhere but don't be disheartened be bold). Thanks for any feedback or help. Eversense (talk) 20:18, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

What do you want it to look like and say? If it's meant to replace {{talk header}}, you might want to check in at the village pump to gauge interest. — Bility (talk) 17:08, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
It wouldn't be meant to replace the talk header template or anything, just give another option. I'm imagining it a bit smaller in size with slightly less words/links, but including some encouragements along lines of the be bold template. For further details I feel like I'd need to play around with a draft template - I've noticed links to sandbox testing but really can't tell how to do it. Could you help me get started with that? Then I could see what peopole think here or village pump as you say. Eversense (talk) 21:03, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
The template you'd want to use is {{tmbox}}. I put an example in your userpages here. Let me know if you need any help. When you get it looking how you like, you can start asking around and see if anyone wants to use it, or you can be bold and move it into the Template namespace and start using it yourself. Cheers, — Bility (talk) 23:36, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for setting that up. I've got it kinda looking how I imagined. Not sure if the {{PAGENAME}} tag needs extra code to make sure it works, as seems to be present in the talk header template. Not sure about the colour names/numbers either. Any comments about it or its intended use would be very welcome, here or there.... Eversense (talk) 03:37, 28 December 2011 (UTC) (p.s. the jagged speech bubble could be a little discouraging maybe... but then again it can happen, & people might want to express their concerns or disagreement...) Eversense (talk) 03:38, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for helping with it Bility, I used the pic & version you amended. I've just stuck it up at Template:Encourage, don't know if it'll be of any use. Wanted to include a link to WP:Referencing for beginners too but that seemed to make it too wordy/lopsided, not sure. Any amendments or feedback from anyone welcomed. Cheers, Eversync (talk) 10:41, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Engrish

src=//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fb/Yes_check.svg/20px-Yes_check.svg.png Resolved

A template similar to Template:Not English, except that it refers to poorly translated articles, not articles that haven't been translated at all. (Engrish is simply a slang term used to describe text poorly translated into English, as in All your base are belong to us.) It would look something like this:

I will probably not check back here in a while, so please notify me on my talk page if you have any questions.

Thanks,

The Doctahedron, 01:45, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

There is already a similar template at {{cleanup-translation}}. mabdul 15:01, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Oh and {{Rough translation}} mabdul 15:11, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Maybe {{engrish}} would redirect to {{Rough translation}}, as some people from pop-culture backgrounds might be more comfortable with the word Engrish than poorly translated English. 68.173.113.106 (talk) 22:14, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Whoops. It already links to {{cleanup-translation}}. QED. 68.173.113.106 (talk) 22:15, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
And now I have changed the redirect to rough translation. I wasn't aware of the second template when I created the redirect. mabdul 23:19, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] DPRK Railway Station

src=//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fb/Yes_check.svg/20px-Yes_check.svg.png Resolved

Hi! I'd like a template that is similar to Template:Infobox_Station, however, it would need a 'Korean name' section like Template:Infobox_SMS_station. Thanks in advance! 2Q (talk) 22:32, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

2Q (talk) 22:32, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

I checked this request and while moving the template Infobox Station to a sandbox for adding the new parameters, I recognized that there is already a undocumented parameter called {{{native_name_lang}}} and {{{native_name}}. Only the second parameter is visible and adds a new line under the type with the original name. Is that enough? mabdul 13:49, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
PS: I will update the documentation in a few minutes.
if it can be used multiple times then it should indeed be enough (Korean names in infoboxes have to be written in two different scripts and two different romanisations...) 2Q (talk) 14:57, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
(added nowiki) Try it out with a showcase! Since it only adds (defacto) a new line, you simply can use
into that field, but at the moment, there is only one of these fields. I can (and only if you want) I will try to add to the sandbox the relevant 4 parameters of the Infobox SMS station and then request a edit protect... mabdul 15:08, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm a bit confused as to where it is? Also I think the way it's done in Infobox SMS station is the best solution for what's needed for the DPRK railway stations (though with a couple minor North Korea-specific changes - chosŏn'gŭl instead of hangul, MR before RR). There is a page Template:Infobox DPRK Railway Station that's at the moment just a redirect to Template:Infobox Station, perhaps the resulting code could be put there, as this would be very specific to (North) Korean needs? To make it more generically suitable for Northern and Southern stations, one could use the context feature found in Template:Infobox Korean name to switch between the northern and southern-specific features of the name (chosŏn'gŭl vs hangul, order of romanisations)... 2Q (talk) 14:09, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
I redirected Template:Infobox DPRK Railway Station for testing purposes to the new sandboxes. Please report me if there are any problems, so that I can poke an admin... mabdul 22:39, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Sooo, and at Template:Infobox_station/testcases, you can see the actual template (left), the sandbox version without new parameters (middle), and the sandbox version with the four new parameters (right). Regards, mabdul 22:55, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
User:The Earwig finally synced the sandbox to the real draft and thus all should worked. So have fun adding new names tho the templates. ;) Regards, mabdul 23:29, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
